The 2020 race to the White House has narrowed significantly after Super Tuesday. The election will come down to either Bernie Sanders or Joe Biden running against Donald Trump. I don’t need to mansplain this to you, but if the 2016 race proved anything to America, it’s that we can’t get enough of old rich white guys in the White House. Sorry ladies!
Donald Trump is 73 years young, Joe Biden and his hairy legs are 77 years old, & comrade Bernie Sanders is 78 years of age. Biden and Sanders would shatter the record by several years for oldest president if elected. If either Biden or Sanders were to win the election and go a full 8 years, we could be talking about a president who is in their mid-80’s!…What’s that sonny-boy? I SAID MID-EIGHTIES!…NOT KID-RABIES!
So without further ado…we’re going to play a fun game. It’s called: Things that are younger than Bernie, Biden & Trump!
1. The Polio Vaccine
Remember polio? Probably not because you’re on the internet, not reading a newspaper and it’s 2020, not 1920. But believe it or not, the polio vaccine was not developed until 1955 by Jonas Salk. All three men running for president in 2020 are so old they could have contracted polio! Bernie Sanders was already a teenager by the time the vaccine was developed. WOW!
2. The Microwave Oven
The first commercially available microwave oven was not sold until 1947, Trump’s birth year, but microwaves were not readily available for quite some time after that. In 1955, the Tappan Stove company tried to market a 220 volt wall unit for a price of US$1,295 ($12,000 in 2019 dollars). It was a complete failure, and microwaves did not become popular for home use until the mid-1960s when Raytheon sold the countertop Radarange, at a price of US$495 ($4,000 in 2019 dollars).
3. Color TV
These geezers are so old they pre-date broadcast color TV. Color Television was not broadcast until on December 17, 1953 and did not become popular until the early 1960’s.
4. Non-Stick Pans
Teflon was not invented until 1954, so that means the 3 men running for president grew up using the same pan technology that was used by people for hundreds of years before them. Yo President so old, he had to butter his pans!
Tupperware was introduced to the public in the year 1948, a year after Trump was born. These guys are so old, even Tupperware can’t preserve them.
6. Credit Cards
The credit card was invented in 1946 but did not gain popularity until the 1950’s with the first successful card issued by The Diner’s Club. Can you imagine life without credit cards?
7. Cat Litter
Cat litter is one of any of a number of materials used in litter boxes to absorb moisture from cat feces and urine, which reduces foul odors such as ammonia and renders them more tolerable within the home. The first commercially available cat litter was Kitty Litter, available in 1948.
So these 3 may not be older than dirt. But they are older than cat litter.
Trump possibly would never be the man he has become without the help of this invention that was first created in 1948 by Chase Products Company, based in Broadview, Illinois.
First known as the “Whirlo-Way”, the flying disc was invented in 1949 by Walter Frederick Morrison who combined his fascination with invention and his interest in flight. Morrison sold his flying disc invention to WHAM–O, which introduced it in 1957 as the “Pluto Platter.” In 1958, WHAM–O modified the “Pluto Platter” and rebranded it as a Frisbee flying disc to the world. It became an instant sensation. Think about that. We’re going to have a president older than the Frisbee.
Frank J. Zamboni of Paramount, California invented the first ice resurfacer, which he called a Zamboni, in 1949. I can’t even imagine a world without Zambonis! It’s almost as crazy as Crazy Bernie!
